Yes, I have met them. They came out to Seattle, after their first CD came out. Nic told the audience that when he was younger, his brother (or someone in the family) handed him a guitar and told him he was in the worship band at the small chuch his parents pastor. He couldn't play but two chords (I think), but the Lord blessed him and the worship band. The concert was small, but awesome. After they performed, they signed autographs and were very friendly. My family and I were able to talk with at length about the Lord, music, their families, etc. Neat bunch of guys.
I once heard from someone in Austin that Nick, Art and their cousin started playing music at their Uncles church first. The music was too loud so their parents started their own church so that they could play there. You won't read anything in interviews to reflect that though. I kind of like the story that someone named "Salvador" started the group.
Salvador is savior or lifesaver in Spanish. I'm pretty sure that is the origin of their name. Jesus is our savior, Jesus es nuestro salvador. He is our lifesaver!
It was Nick, Art and Josh at first. They played in their church. At first, they called themselves Holy Fire (shh, they don't like people to know that, lol) and changed their name to Salvador to reflect their Latin roots and who they sing about. I'm not sure how many chords Nic new in the beginning, I think it was 2 or 3. Salvador's gone from 3 to 5 to 7 to 8. They've had members come and go.
