My first thought this morning was of the Huff family. I am glad to see that they will be leaving and heading somewhere a little safer. Having been through 3 hurricanes last year, I know that it can be scary, especially for those who have never experienced it before. As Scott said, it has become a way of life for those of us who are constantly threatened by them. Everyones prayers meant a lot to me last year and I know that they will mean a lot to all those affected this year. You guys are great and it is amazing how the power of prayer can be felt across the country. Keep it up! Wink

just an update from http://www.weather.com about the hurricane.....expected to hit tomorrow...pleaseeeeeee keep them in your prayers still! EVERYONE in the area...

quote:
Hurricane Katrina is an extremely dangerous Category 5 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Maximum sustained winds have now been greatly increased to 175 mph. Katrina continues not only grow stronger, but it continues to grow larger. Hurricane-force winds extend 90 miles from the center on the eastern side of Katrina, 75 miles to the northwest and 50 miles to the southwest. The center of Katrina was 225 miles from the mouth of the Mississippi River at 10am CDT, but the hurricane force winds are only 135 miles from the coast.

Everyone along the northern Gulf of Mexico needs to take this hurricane very seriously and put action plans into play now. Hurricane warnings have now been hoisted from Morgan City, La., to the Florida-Alabama border. This includes the city of New Orleans and Lake Pontchartrain. A tropical storm warning and a hurricane watch have been issued from the Alabama-Florida border eastward to Destin, Florida and from west of Morgan City to Intracoastal City, Louisiana.

Katrina is forecast to turn to the northwest later this morning, then toward the north tonight. Well ahead of the center there will be very high surf crashing ashore in the northern Gulf starting Sunday night. You'll need to use extreme caution or just not go in the water at all along all of the northern Gulf beaches from Louisiana to western Florida due to this increased surf. Extreme damaging winds, high, life threatening storm surge, and deadly flooding rains with possible tornadoes are expected at landfall.

Effects from Katrina will not be confined to coastal areas. Once Hurricane Katrina makes landfall, it will progress inland Monday into Tuesday with a trail of flooding rains and damaging winds across Mississippi and Alabama and then into Tennessee. Torrential, flooding rainfall is possible with the remnants of Katrina well inland, possibly into the Ohio Valley, Great Lakes and the Northeast later this week.

Elsewhere, there are two areas of low pressure in the central Atlantic. One low pressure is a system that has been monitored for several days now. It is centered about 800 miles east-northeast of the Leeward Islands. The strong area of low pressure has dealt with a harsh environment ever since its existence. Atmospheric conditions have not improved over the last 12 hours, so development with this system would be slow.

A second area of low pressure is located several hundred miles southeast of the aforementioned low. This system continues to show signs of organization and could become the next tropical depression later today. It could approach the Lesser Antilles in the next 3 to 4 days.

Tropical Depression Irwin continues to weaken in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Top winds are down to 30 mph and it may dissipate in the next 24 hours.

In the northwest Pacific Talim has become a typhoon and is forecast to grow to a 120 mph typhoon before moving across Taiwan and into mainland China in the next 3 to 4 days.

All we can do is hope and pray.

One other thing to remember: once we start to see the (likely to be catastrophic) pictures from the coast, there could easily be destructive floods and mudslides inland...

you know I am not a good "public" prayer person. I've been searching in my mind for the right thing to say. I am asking God in my own words to watch over all these people whom I don't know and I am thankful that my family is out of harms way!

It made me want to share this:
Psalm 121
A song of ascents.
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you—the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

Pray hard tonight.

All along the Gulf of Mexico and hundreds of miles inland, including the region of New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina will likely turn entire cities into landfill sites within the next 12 hours.

When you wake up Tuesday morning, you likely will not recognize New Orleans and dozens of other communities in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

This is one of the worst storms ever recorded. We know it will be extremely devastating.

Let's all pray that everyone made it out OK and will survive this disaster of epic proportions that is expected. Hopefully we can keep the death toll low.

We must pray for everyone in its path.

Heavenly Father,
We join our hearts and minds leaning on Your amazing grace tonight. Father we know that we can come together and ask for anything in Your name and You are in the midst of us. For those who did not get out of New Orleans Lord we ask that You calm the storm brewing within them. We pray that You would keep George's family close to Your heart and allow them to put their cares at Your feet and trust that You can and will provide for them. We pray as well for Miss Lilly and her daughter. We pray all is well with them and that they too have found a safe place to wait out the storm. Lord we place all our hopes in Your everlasing love and grace. In Your Mercy Amen. [sun]

From the fullness of God's grace we all have received one blessing upon another!!!

Trish...Austin sings a song that comes from that passage in the bible you posted. It's called 'I lift my eyes up' and you posted a perfect prayer for those in the path of this storm. Here are the lyrics...

I lift my eyes up to the mountains
Where does my help come from
My help comes from You
Maker of heaven, creator of the earth
I lift my eyes up to the mountains
Where does my help come from
My help comes from You
Maker of heaven, creator of the earth

Oh how I need You Lord
You are my only hope
You’re my only prayer
So I will wait for You
To come and rescue me
Come and give me life

Those are such beautiful words EVERYONE is writing....I felt led to say a few things if thats okay.....Ive just been in prayer all morning...

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in his wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of your glory and grace

Psalm 107:28-30
Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble and he brought them out of their distress

He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed

They were glad when it grew calm, and he guied them to their desired haven

O Lord, Abba Father....I come to you with a prayer...

In the midst of the darkness, we know you are the world's one light

In the midst of our weakness, we know you give us the strength to fight

In the midst of all our sadness, you comfort us and say its alright

Lord just please watch over all your children that are in harms way at this hour..that you will turn their eyes upon you Jesus and you will calm the storm and renew their hope in you. With God all things are possible!!! Take away all the fears in their minds, let them turn to you because you are the one true hope! Deliever them from the storm and harm and shelter them with your love and protection! Let them know that there is nothing that you God cannot protect them from and that they must give all their fears over to you God, for you fight our battles for us. As our dear friend George always says....let the lord fight your battles!!! How true does that ring right now....please fight those battles for everyone in harms way. We ask these things in your most precious and holy name....amen!!!

I love you Lord
and I lift my voice
To worship you
Oh my soul, rejoice
Take joy my king
In what you hear
Let it be a sweet, sweet sound
In your ear

I love you all!!!!

-Tara

Beautiful prayers and sentiments everyone. Craig, I hate to say this, but in the most loving way I can say it...I think you're a little over the top with some of your comments. I've been watching the news all morning and by the time Katrina hit landfall, it had been downgraded to a category 3. I will guarantee you that New Orleans will still be recognizable. We need to promote the hope and goodwill of our heavenly Father. Not the voice of gloom and despair...that will serve no positive purpose. What if someone came on here and heard your words...they would be unbelievably terrified. It is suredly a bad storm, but God will have his saving grace and protection in place...rest assured. Peace and love to you and everyone.

Thirty three years ago this past June 22 Hurricane Agnes blew through the Wyoming Valley and destroyed everything in its path including my home. All we had left were the clothes on our backs. Although things look bad now, THIS TO SHALL PASS. You will find the strength to get through this. Trust me....

I am still praying for everyone's safety.

Is there any news of everyone's wellbeing? Especially Miss Lilly, since we didn't have news Sunday night of her getting to her safe location.

Dear Father in Heaven,
Please bring our friends peace in this time of trouble. I pray you continue to watch over and protect Miss Lilly and the Huff family. You know, Lord, our hearts and how much we love them. Please let their homes be intact when they return also, Lord.
In Jesus' Holy name I pray. Amen.

Tell that to the people of Biloxi and Gulfport, Mississippi and the eastern suburbs of New Orleans, along with many other smaller towns...

Although the hurricane did do a great deal of damage, the news reports you hear are mostly hype. Homes were lost, there is no doubt, a few lives were also lost, however MANY lives were spared. The hurricane came in much weaker than "expected" as they often do. God is good, many lives were spared. Material things can be replaced.

So far at least 77 are dead. That includes 54 in one county alone.

Craig you need to get a grip! This board is supposed to stay positive with prayers for our friends and family in the path of Katrina. Lets not bring everyone down by the devestating news...we've all seen it on the news!
