American Idol has added a second show in Syracuse, NY to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina. The show will be held on September 11 at the War Memorial. Syracuse is the last stop on the concert tour. It is not yet known whether the Idols will be performing different songs or if there will be any additional music added to the show.

Ticket sales for this benefit performance are reported to be very slow, however, mostly due to lack of publicity. The show is still not listed on the official Idol site, and even the local Syracuse newspaper has not mentioned this show. Some have suggested that this show be broadcast as a telethon, but because it is being so poorly promoted, it may be just too late in the game to pull this off. Good idea, though.

The storm also forced cancellation of the Memphis auditions for Idol 5 that had been scheduled for September 5. Producers noted the large number of evacuees that had been moved to Memphis, and realized that the city did not need to be further stressed by a large influx of people hoping to audition for the show.

George Huff is expected to participate in a fundraiser for hurricane relief to be broadcast on September 22. The event, which is being sponsored by the Atlanta-based Gospel Music Channel, will be aired live from Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park on GMC and PAX TV.

George is gearing up to promote his CD, Miracles, set to be released on October 11. He will be appearing at Hershey Park in Pennsylvania on Saturday, September 17.

Other Idols have also stepped up to help. Clay Aiken participated on Saturday’s Larry King Live special as a representative of UNICEF. Clay, who told King that he had already made a donation to the American Red Cross, compared the situation to that which he witnessed in Sri Lanka after the tsunami.
