"Even with sunglasses and a hat, people still recognize me," Huff says. He doesn't know why, but he draws especially large crowds at the Philadelphia and Atlanta airports. So no doubt Huff will be recognized when he sings at the Florida Flame games this weekend. "It's kind of surprising because I gained a lot of weight since the show — maybe 10 pounds or so," he says. Since appearing on the popular Fox show, Huff's life has changed drastically. Huff — a student at the University of Oklahoma before "Idol" — no longer has to work in the school's cafeteria. "I'm singing everywhere and doing what I love," he says. Unlike some former "Idol" contestants, Huff, a fifth-place finisher on the show, didn't have to wait long for a record deal. A little more than three months after being voted off the show, Huff had a contract in his lap. Negotiations between Huff and three labels started almost immediately after "American Idol" ended. "I signed my contract with Warner Bros. and Word Entertainment on the 'American Idol' tour," says the raspy-voiced singer. "My lawyer pretty much did all the work. I chose the one with the best plan. The one that would produce a CD where I could express myself and not compromise who I am." One of the conditions Huff had with his label was to be allowed to make the kind of music he wants. As opposed to Kelly Clarkson's and Carrie Underwood's formulaic debuts, Huff's "Miracles" feels like it's from the heart. His baritone voice booms with confidence while singing R&B-flavored gospel. "I wanted to sing inspiring music," he says. "I wanted it to be positive. Some of the lyrics our kids are singing today are just awful." Like former Fort Myers letter carrier Vonzell Solomon, who came in third on the most recent "Idol," Huff is positive and upbeat. His infectious smiles made him a fan favorite. Perhaps that's why he has a special place in his heart for Solomon. "I loved Vonzell," he says. "She's one of my favorites. I was so sad when she was voted off because her heart really came through the music, and she could really sing." The admiration goes both ways, says Solomon, who'll sing "O' Come All Ye Faithful' on "Good Morning America" today. Solomon, who has a few labels interested in signing her to a record deal, says she and Huff are a lot alike. "I loved George when he was on the show," says Solomon. But Huff says that while he loves what he does, life hasn't been all that easy. Huff wasn't in his native New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina stormed ashore and devastated the city. " 'Inside Edition' flew me back there a few days later," he says. "It was a mess, but my family was all OK. They're living in Dallas right now and they're taking it one day at a time." Huff is, too — but that's mostly because he's so busy. This weekend he's here in Southwest Florida. On Christmas, he'll perform in Washington, D.C., and on New Year's Eve he has a gig lined up in Bermuda. "I love traveling. I wish I could live on the plane," he says. source is here: http://www.news-press.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20...ENT12/511250347/1075 George...your the one who stole my heart away <3...you'll always hold that special spot in my heart... |

Aww, I like that article.
It's so great to know that people still recognize George and that he is pleased with the type of music he has been able to make. I agree that George's debut album seems to be straight from his heart. And Vonzell is a sweetheart. |
