Well, we have one that's a little different...

"Santa" leaves a personal letter in each child's stocking -printed on official North Pole parchment with leaping reindeer and a gold seal that says, "from the desk of Santa Claus"at the bottom- that lists three things each child has accomplished during the year. For example, this year my 3-year-old will have as one of his accomplishments, finally wearing "big boy pants" instead of Pull-Ups. (That was a BIG deal at our house. He was very attached to his Pull-Ups.)

We've got letters all the way back from their first Christmas for each child. Now that the two older ones can read, they always get excited wondering what "Santa" will have noticed.

The paper and envelopes a printer made for us for like, $20 (which is enough paper to last for several hundred Christmas mornings) the gold seals are from Wal-Mart and the thing that presses the "from the desk of Santa Claus" I ordered cheaply from some address label company.

That's the one unusual thing we do that breaks out of the norm of your average egg-sausage-bread casserole and cheese grits on Christmas morning...

Thanks for the nice comments ya'll.

You were too kind, really. I'm highly "damaged," as House would say, but I love my children, each one of them so deeply, aspire to love them more and better all the time, and I love the way they're all different. I don't think they were put on the planet to be mere accessories in my life, like a purse or a a pair of shoes, and Peter Parker would say that my best quality as a mom is being "very tuned in" to their feelings. In other words, I'm a little bit anal about things like being one of the first moms in the car-rider line because I hate the thought of them standing there waiting with that forlorn, feeling of being forgotten or unimportant.

But the house is a mess,(don't ask about the car, it's a veritable science lab) I can't cook without burning something, and my prowess at the whole cupcake/craft-making/ having their hair combed and cute, matching clothes type stuff, totally stinks!

Ok Lucie I think I got a solution here. See I am good with the hair combing, matching socks to the clothes, a cupcake/creme pie sorta thingy. I can teach em music and homeschool with the best of em.

I help you and you help me not be so hard on them, as in remember they are not soldiers and each are different. Cause If I have to put another child on punishment for non cleaning of their room, I will surely scream. And just why can't they all be alike, it makes it easier for me if they all did the exact same thing and liked it.

Lucie, do you think it is important for a child to have their parents "emotionally tuned in?"

If you actually want to know your children -or anybody for that matter- you need to be paying pretty close attention, so a big yes to that one! Life, as you said somewhere else, is so very short.

There are all kinds of ways people lose their children, without ever losing sight of them...

i think it is very important for parents, friends, relatives etc. to b tuned in emotionally. if they're not how they gonna know what's going on in your life. when they r tuned in it shows they care too!! btw i agree with lucie as u can tell!!

I don't think I have ever been emotionally tuned in to, and I think that I'm doing alright. Smile
