On another thread, "Susan B. Anthony" says she was "born at the wrong time." She meant it of course in relation to one of her heroines.

But just for fun...

If you'd been born 150 years ago, how would your life be different?

(I don't mean you wouldn't have a car.)

I probably wouldn't be alive since I most likely would have died of a ruptured appendix at the age of 11.

If I had survived appendicitis and hadn't fallen to any other sort of illness like cholera, I probably wouldn't have died from the melanoma I had (it's deadly skin cancer, Kiersten!) since I probably wouldn't have developed it anyway as women tended to cover up more in 1856 and we had a little bit of ozone layer left.

Whether or not I would have any living children or have met my husband as he is from New Jersey is questionable as he wouldn't have moved here because the reason for his move to Georgia was because his father transferred with the now defunct Eastern Airlines. Since there were no airlines in 1856 and the Civil War was looming large, I imagine his family would have stayed in New Jersey. Of course, he may not have even made it here at all as his father's grandfather didn't arrive from Scotland until around 1898.

The living children issue comes into play because my blood type is A- and my husband is O-. If I'd married a man with a positive blood type, our ability to have children survive during that particular time would have been difficult if the children had a positive blood type. My ob/gyn told me that having negative blood is rare because it's a recessive situation but being negative and meeting and marrying another person with negative blood has odds that are extremely slim.

So where would you be? C'mon, think a little bit. I'm sure all of you will find something you can be thankful for and know you were born at exactly the right time...

ok so if i were born in 1856 i wouldn't have battled anorexia cause they didn't know what and eating disorder was back then...i wouldn't have cared as much about my looks as i do now...i would have seen my fave president...gotten to be around to help with the womens rights movement....although women didn't get there rights till 1906...thats the only bad thing i can think of...i wouldn't have been free to work or own anything...but the crime rate was probably lower then...i mean did they even have door locks back then??

My handy-dandy "Kings and Queens of England" book is now packed so without looking I can't say with any detail except that it was by the usual means...the previous monarch died and she was the next legitimate successor to the throne as best I can recall. She was one of the most beloved queens, had a bunch of kids and really loved her husband, Albert. It's a very romantic story.

Plus, "Queen Victoria" saves the day in a Shirley Temple movie. (The Little Princess.)

The Shirley Temple one or the newer one? They're both good. I just love the part where she's asleep in that cold attic room and when she wakes, there's the new robe and slippers and edible goodies...

In the new one the mystical Indian who takes care of Sarah's neighbor is the one who helps Sarah's father regain his memory.

I've been called "sweet pea" all my life. I reserve it for the few special "peas" I've run across. Meggie, you're a "sweet pea" if I ever saw one.

Big hugs, big smiles all your way.

In the old Little Princess, the mystical Indian is very present there as well (he's still the one that sponsors and arranges the feast in the attic) but he helps her find her father by delaying other forces as Sarah goes to the hospital. That's where she meets Queen Victoria as she's about to be thrown out and the queen insists she be allowed to search.

I'm getting all choked up thinking about Shirley crying, "Grandfather, Grandfather..."

Doesn't she milk something in Heidi?

And then there's, "Don't you know me? It's Sarah..." from The Little Princess.

*Lucie Manette rushes away for a tissue.*

No one can remember if Shirley milks something in Heidi?

I'm pretty sure it's a goat.
